SteamOS and Linux gaming hardware compatibility matrix

How to read the matrix

The snapshot date is 2026-07-15. “Official” is reserved for hardware Valve currently names in SteamOS installation support; distribution support is not relabeled as Valve support.

Booting once is not a compatibility result. Controls, audio, wireless, suspend, TDP, display, update, rollback, and recovery are separate acceptance tests.

Recommendation rule

Start from the exact device page, then choose a distribution only when its current support source names the model or the complete component path satisfies documented requirements. Preserve a vendor or external recovery route before replacing the installed OS.

Verification record

Every result should include exact model/revision, APU/GPU and device IDs, BIOS/EC/controller firmware, distribution image, kernel, Mesa/driver, Gamescope/HHD, controls, audio, wireless, suspend cycles, power limits, display chain, update, rollback, and recovery.

Frequently asked questions

What does limited compatibility mean?
What does limited compatibility mean?
It means installation or distribution integration has dated evidence, but the device is not an unconditional official SteamOS target and still has model, feature, or test boundaries.
Can this matrix replace the device page?
Can this matrix replace the device page?
No. The matrix is a routing index. The device page contains model scope, component caveats, blockers, and the required verification record.
